I don't know about you, but this is my first major world crisis to live through and experience. I would never have expected a global pandemic to be fully chaotic yet peaceful at the same time. In the book Born to Run by Christopher McDougall, it has been proven that the United States has experienced three drastic peaks in distance-running over time. Each peak has surrounded a major crisis in history. When our lives are in the midst of chaos, we naturally want to run. Will this season of COVID-19 be the fourth peak in distance running history? I have reason to believe it will be. We have all the time in the world, so why not pick up a new hobby or brush off the old running shoes?
I felt it was necessary to launch the Start-Her programs during this time because many of us need an escape. It is hard to sit and do nothing all day. It is also hard to cope with anxiety, loneliness, and depression right now. Know that you aren't alone in your feelings. As you face strange emotions, try lacing up your running shoes and challenging yourself. Running could be the outlet you need to deal with the worries you have pushed aside. It has been clinically proven time and time again that running is one of the best medicines for emotional distress. If you are reading this and you have no idea where to start, that's what Start-Her is here for. It's our mission to shine a positive light on the sport. We want you to experience the beautifully healing power of running.
